Corky was born in Macon County, MO and moved from Prairie Hill to Ivanhoe, CA in 1936. He attended Ivanhoe Elementary School and in 1944 graduated from Visalia Union High School. He immediately enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Randall until March, 1946. Corky married what would be the love of his life, Lois Jane Shaw on May 12, 1945 and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Over the years, Corky did many jobs but would be best known as a truck driver having worked for Muir Trucking Company, Hannah Trucking Company and Sequoia Rock Company. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Martha Callen, and his wife, Lois.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Beringer, son, Derwin (Denese) Callen (wife), grandsons, Brian, Ted and Shane Beringer, Drew Callen, and great granddaughter, Hannah Hensley.
Remembrances: Corky enjoyed camping at Eshom Creek in the summer playing horseshoes with family and friends, also camping in the desert riding dirt bikes and sitting around the campfire. Being an only child, he really enjoyed the Shaw family of 9 brothers and sisters and was really a part of that family. Christmas gatherings at the Shaw House was always a competition of the Uncles trying to out do each other at push up's and other fun stuff they came up with. After retirement, he and his wife took their motor home traveling across the country for a few years and really enjoyed the expericence.
Other notes ~ Corky feel asleep at the wheel of his truck near Colinga and overturned a load of tomatoes and breaking both his legs, he was lucky to survive. This was in the early 1950's before Derwin was born. It was a long recovery and he was in the Colinga Hospital for a lengthy stay.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with services beginning at 12 Noon at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia. Burial will follow at Visalia Public Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia.
